The city of Safi is also a mix of a typical white coastal medina with Portuguese influences and architectural remains. It is also not crowded so easy for visitors to enjoy.
In the 15th and 16th centuries, Safi was ruled under a Portuguese protectorate and a fortified city built by Vasco Da Gama remains.
Safi is also an artistic city with a pottery tradition and painters representing local natural landscapes or the fantasia (traditional performance of a group of horse riders).
